Support Group for SPOUSES/PARTNERS

in a relationship with someone on the autism spectrum
                  
The SPOUSE/PARTNER Support Group meets once a month on the 3rd Thursday of each month. Meetings are from 6:30pm-8pm at the Tucson Alliance For Autism, 3111 E. 2nd Street.  

You may show up for these meetings without prior notice.

There is no registration process, no fee to attend, no obligation, and no commitment required.

The groups are continuous throughout the year without a break for holidays unless the holiday falls on the exact day of a group. Please feel free to join us anytime. 

​PURPOSE AND SCOPE: The Spouse/Partner Support Group is offered to spouses or partners in a relationship with someone on the spectrum. It is a confidential peer support group that creates an environment of support and guidance. The Souse/Partner Group group is designed to help Spouses/Partners to manage the special issues that autism presents in a relationship. The focus is on developing strategies and interventions for improved family and relationship life, as well as the exchange of ideas and resources.

Members give each other suggestions while encouraging one another in the process of learning and change.

 FACILITATOR: Kristin Ladd-Brown.  Kristin has a husband who has autism.

Adult Autism FAMILY Support Group
                  
The Adult Autism Spectrum Family Support Group meets once a month on the 3rd Thursday of each month. Meetings are from 6:30pm-8pm at the Tucson Alliance For Autism, 3111 E. 2nd Street.

​PURPOSE AND SCOPE: The Adult Autism Family Support Group is offered to family members (spouses, significant others, parents, adult siblings) of adults on the spectrum. It is a confidential peer support group that creates an environment of support and guidance. The family group is designed to help family members to manage the special issues that autism presents to the family. The focus is on developing strategies and interventions for improved family and relationship life, as well as the exchange of ideas and resources for launching adults into independence. Members give each other suggestions while encouraging one another in the process of learning and change.

 FACILITATOR: Marilyn Riesch, M.S. is a retired rehabilitation counselor. Her experience as a family member of an adult on the spectrum gives her a relevant perspective and expertise. She has facilitated this group since 2004.

Adult Autism Support Group
                  
The Adult Autism Spectrum Community Support Group meets twice per month on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month.  Meetings are from 6:30pm-8pm at the Tucson Alliance For Autism, 3111 E. 2nd Street. 

No formal diagnosis is necessary to participate in the above-mentioned activities. You may show up for them without prior notice. There is no registration process, no fee to attend, no obligation, and no commitment required.

​PURPOSE AND SCOPE: The Adult Autism Support Group is offered to adults on the autism spectrum. It is a confidential peer support group in which participants discuss the traits, characteristics, and talents of those on the autism spectrum. Relevant topics are presented and discussed. It is an informal and relaxed setting where people share their thoughts and feelings while asking for feedback, support and information.

 FACILITATOR: John Bowen Brown II, the facilitator of the Adult Autism Support Group, is on the spectrum and and has a professional degree in human services. He is passionate about helping people on the spectrum.

Adult Autism Community

Support Groups

The Tucson Alliance for Autism provides peer support groups and social activities for adults on the spectrum and their family members.  There is no fee or registration for these groups and activities. 
 
Our goal is to provide:

  • safe and supportive social learning experiences for adults on the autism spectrum in a group setting
  • opportunities for adults on the spectrum to meet others on the spectrum
  • support systems for the family members of adults on the spectrum where they can exchange ideas and information and offer one another guidance in a group setting
  • no cost, on-going, obligation free, no strings attached group and referral services
  • up to date information on scientific research, books, movies, news, and local and national resources relevant to the autism spectrum
  • social events for people on the spectrum
